This Site

This is mainly a members-only site, with membership limited to Mensa members and close associates.

Information about Mensa in general, and Vancouver Mensa in particular, may be found by following links under About, near the top of the left sidebar.

One discussion topic, named Public, can be read without logging in, and is available as an RSS 2.0 web feed, which can be subscribed to by anybody. (If you are unfamiliar with the term, please see Web Feed under About.) Articles in this topic will sometimes be directed to the public, e.g. to draw attention to new/changed Mensa information pages. More often, an article in this topic will be a short note addressed to members, typically via the web feed, advising them of important changes or additions to the members-only site content, such as event information.

Among other purposes, it is hoped that this site will facilitate and encourage attendance at Vancouver Mensa face-to-face events, both by local Mensa members and by Mensans visiting Vancouver. For out-of-towners and people who have mislaid their newsletter, there is a listing of regularly scheduled events, sometimes with more detailed information and directions than in the newsletter. (Event hosts: we need your help with this!) For new events, cancelled events, changes of time or venue, this site can be a more timely form of communication.

Members' email addresses are generally not visible to anybody, not even other members of the site excepting the administrator. (Naturally, if an email address is included in the text of an article, comment, calendar entry, etc, it will be visible.)

Since the main target audience of this site is a face-to-face community, members are asked to enter their first and last names in the Full Name field on their My Account page the first time that they log in to the site. No other personal information is asked for, and members should use due discretion with whatever additional information they choose to provide.
